About

Cyber Investigation Services is an eCommerce consumer safety and national security firm. We watch the marketplaces for fakes of brands whose products could hurt someone, warn the brand when fakes put its customers at risk, and package the intelligence to attract contingency attorneys to take the case. We work the categories where a fake can hurt someone.

We were founded in 2010 and have spent sixteen years fighting ecommerce abuse, for hundreds of brands.

We operate as a faith-based, family business trying to legitimately help each of our customers.

A marketplace that cannot say who its sellers are, or where their goods came from, is a consumer safety problem and a national security problem. In our study of 5,075 Amazon sellers named in 75 counterfeit lawsuits, 91% of the sellers that list an address were in mainland China. That is about 60% of all 5,075; a third list no address.

We always watch for free. Our fee comes only from the recovery. Many counterfeiting problems can be resolved with no money out of your pocket: the attorney pays the upfront costs and takes them back from what is collected.

Since 2010

Our history

2010

Where we started

Bruce and Chris Anderson founded Cyber Investigation Services in Tampa, Florida. The firm worked cyber crime cases for businesses and individuals. Those years taught us how online crime operates and where the money goes.

2010 to 2026

Fighting counterfeits on the marketplaces

Our work turned to the sellers behind counterfeit listings on the major marketplaces.

2023

Volume and automation

We rebuilt the practice around AI and automation. Software now checks thousands of sellers a day, so watching costs us almost nothing. Machines handle the volume. An expert reviews every finding before we reach out.

Founder & CEO

Cyber Investigation Services

Chris founded Cyber Investigation Services in 2010 and leads it as CEO. For sixteen years he has fought ecommerce abuse for hundreds of brands. Today he directs our work against the counterfeits that put consumers at risk.

Before CIS, Chris spent more than a decade on defense and national security research. He was a research scientist at Dynetics on Department of Defense projects, then graduate faculty in electrical engineering at the University of Florida. That work produced U.S. patents in signal processing and more than a dozen peer-reviewed papers. He then built and ran an internet marketing firm, where he learned how selling online really works.

He holds a PhD in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering science from the University of Florida. The method has not changed since his defense work: find the signal buried in the noise, the one seller that does not fit.

The Bench

Our referral network

Along the way we built working relationships with specialists across the disciplines a counterfeit case demands. We keep their names off the public internet on purpose. When a case needs them, you meet them.

Digital Forensics

Certified forensic examiners. They build and preserve evidence the way courts need it.

Counterfeit Litigation

Attorneys who have brought counterfeit cases for brands. Litigators who have fought these cases in court.

Counterfeit Supply Tracing

Investigators who have traced counterfeit product toward its source for decades, including fake medicines that endanger patients.

Former Platform Investigators

People who investigated sellers from inside the marketplaces. They know how platforms police sellers, and where that policing falls short.

Brand-Protection Operations

Veterans who have designed and run corporate brand-protection programs for decades.

We stay small on purpose. The network is how a small firm delivers a total package: the right specialist, one call away.
